This merry, merry month of May let’s play at: Girls on Gartner, 5.1 packed with live music entertainment, food and refreshments, swag bags, prizes and more at the Plaza just south of downtown; attend the 5.2 presentation of The Civil War – It’s Ties to Naperville, 7 p. at Naper Settlement, Century Memorial Chapel; 5.4 is the Kentucky Derby Gala at the Marriott from 3-7 p. – live coverage on multiple screens, reception with Derby Cuisine Action Stations, Southern Hospitality libations, live jazz and ‘They’re Off!’ Guests are encouraged to wear Derby appropriate attire and hats. Same day is the “Pops” Concert at the Carillon at 7 p. or join the Downtown Naperville Historical Walking Tour, meet at 10 a. at the Jefferson Avenue entrance of Nichols Library to visit people and businesses from the past.
Tiny Great Performances, 5.5 at DuPage Childrens Museum – celebrate Cinco de Mayo with DuPage Symphony Orchestra at 2 p. And/or from 4-5 p. History Speaks: WASP at Naper Settlement hear the story of the more than 1100 women who served our country as pilots during World War II. Same day – A.D.O.P.T. Walk begins with a blessing of the animals at 8:30 a. at Fifth Avenue Station followed by a 5k walk thru historic downtown Naperville and along the scenic Riverwalk. Humans and canines are invited to join the fun to benefit area homeless animals. Also, Walk MS: Western Suburbs – Walk MS 2013, connecting people living with MS and those who care about them. Help raise funds to support life changing programs and cutting edge research: Registration 7:30 a. Walk begins at 9 a. Route options: 2.6 or 5 mile. Wonderful World of Wheels, for preschoolers to see, touch and experience a variety of community vehicles and meet drivers. 5.6 From 11 a. – 1 p. at the Whole Foods parking lot. 5.9 At Naper Settlement from 5:30 – 7 p. Gabbing about Gatsby – how fun: Roaring Twenties trivia party for those awaiting the May premiere of “The Great Gatsby” film remake. Wear your best flapper era accessories and join in the 1920’s fun.
Memorial Day Parade – Remember and give thanks Monday, May 27 beginning 10:30 a. – See you there. Then, 5.30 – 6.4 Disney’s Winnie the Pooh Kids at Kidz Kabaret (630.355.9212) Come to the Hundred Acre Wood and follow along with Winnie the Pooh, once again in search of honey. Fun.
